Brunch at Balboa Bay Club & Resort

Hope everyone had a good holiday!

On Christmas Day I went for brunch at The Balboa Bay Club & Resort in Newport Beach, CA. I hadn't been in years! I think the last time I was there was in the mid-80's for a Bar Mitzvah. It sure has changed! Most recently renovated in 2003.  Now, it looks like a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton resort, complete with all the amenities of a five star hotel.  The resort includes (for members and non-members alike): guest suites & rooms, a spa and a salon, meeting rooms, two restaurants and a bar, a marina that accommodates up to 144 boat slips, and more. After brunch, I took a few quick pictures that I thought would share - a mini tour of the club which is currently festively decorated for the holidays.

The Balboa Bay Club sits right on Newport Harbor, with it's own marina and boat slips.

The living/sitting areas - which greatly remind me of a five star hotel.

Palm tree upholstered chairs fill the corridor along side holiday decorations.

Wreaths for Charity

Two recent charity events had designers and stars alike creating wreaths to be auctioned off in support of charity groups such as the Children's Action Network and DIFFA.  The wreath above was designed by Kelly Wearstler for the Children's Action Network for their 3rd Annual Holiday Party held in Los Angeles.  The wreaths below were created for DIFFA's Holiday Wreath Collection Event held in Dallas.

Kate Spade Home

I've been on a bit of a Kate Spade binge lately, having recently purchased a new handbag, wallet, coin purse, iPhone case...so hard to resist when everything is so cute!  Next thing you know I'll be sleeping in Kate Spade...or on Kate Spade! (Bedding, that is!) Launching in 2011 is a new bedding collection from Kate Spade New York.  The collection is punchy and graphic and as quoted from Kate herself, "I really went back to the original DNA of the brand for my inspiration -- bright colors, bold graphics and beautiful combinations of the two."  (The collection will retail from $129-179.)

And while on the subject of home, check out these photos featured in Elle magazine of Kate Spade's creative director Deb Lloyd's Brooklyn townhouse, where she hosted a soiree to toast the brand's launch of their new scent Twirl.

Parlor Textiles

Awhile back, I came across the site for Parlor Textiles, a lovely collection of fabrics and pillows. I couldn't recall where I found the site, but I know for sure it was via another blog. Then I received an email announcment just prior to Thanksgiving for Cyber Monday. As I was revisiting the site - I thought this is certainly something to feature here at Material Girls!  The fabrics and pillows are so pretty!

{It was this email that piqued my interest, once again.}

The Winter Floral fabric shown in marine.

I love the Indian Deco Floral, which comes in indigo, yellow, and red.

And the Simple Ikat, which also comes in terracotta.

BUT...what I really loved when browsing the site is when I came across Parlor Textile's designer Angela Clinton's blog were her unique concept / inspiration boards (many people know I love inspiration boards).

Royal Decor

Kate Middleton has not yet asked me to officially be her decorator, but I know in due time she will call.  I mean, what with her upcoming nuptials to Prince William to be planned, she does have her hands a wee bit full at the moment. But, of course, between the Country House and Clarence House, we will be needing to do quite a bit of sourcing and so I thought, why not get a head start?

First on the list, we will be needing to incorporate some family heirlooms (so many hand-me-downs!).  Then, of course, we will want to update the furnishings, to bring a bit of personality into the interiors from our young royals.  The tricky part is keeping with the tradition of things. So I found the perfect start - why not integrate an area rug based on a stamp of Queen Elizabeth II? Oh, the Queen Mum would be so proud! Of course, we wouldn't want to be stepping on her (not the smartest way to start off with your in laws!).  The likely place for this find will be as a wall hanging! I think Kate & I are off to a good start!

Kate is going to want one girly room at Clarence House, this could the perfect place for her Queen Elizabeth II wall hanging.

Or maybe above the console at the Country House?

And since everyone is going to want to be like Kate, you can purchase your own right here.
