A Pretty Place

I came across this gorgeous home on Fresh Home, and couldn't help but not feature it here on Material Girls - it is just so pretty!

The project was a full renovation and addition of an older home located in a prestigious neighborhood in Toronto. The project renovation was handled by the Toronto based interior design group McGill Design Group with furnishings from Plum Furniture and Design Solutions, also located in Toronto, Canada.

{A contemporary entry in a classic style architecture home.}

{A light and airy living room.}

{Classic details adorn the fireplace.}

{A clean, contemporary kitchen.}

{Custom bookcases and built-ins.}

{Wood paneling detailing in a powder room.}

{A gorgeous desk.}

{Desk drawer detailing.}

{The master bathroom.}

Decorating Trends for 2013

As 2012 is nearly coming to an end, and forging ahead is 2013 -  it's time to take a look at the design and decorating trends to watch for in the new year!Screen Shot 2012-12-23 at 7.17.13 PMRecently announced, Emerald is the Pantone color for 2013. Likely to see much more of this in both design and fashion.

Brass - be it in lighting, fixtures, hardware - it's here to stay for awhile.

High gloss: shine, laquer, high gloss, polish!

Brighter, more saturated hues.

More sophisticated man caves! (Interesting trend, huh?)

Cozy kitchens. (Seems year after year the kitchen remains the hub of the home.)

Look forward to seeing how these trends come into play in the new year!

The Reindeer Project

{my image via Instagram}

Currently on display at the Century City shopping center (an outdoor shopping mall here in LA) is The Reindeer Project: a curated selection of twelve local artists who have transformed a blank reindeer statue into a unique piece of art. The reindeer displays are showcased thorough out the shopping center and being auctioned to benefit Inner-City Arts, a non-profit devoted to bringing arts education back to students in the public school system.

Reindeer by artist Man One and Max Neutra.

Reindeer by artist Marilinda Rivera.

Kids can also come and create chalkboard reindeer art!

Holiday Decor

With the holidays nearing, thought to share some inspiring and chic holiday decor for a little decorating inspiration.

A console table to display holiday accessories.

Framed pictures cleverly announcing "Ho, Ho, Ho."

Simple red wreathes adorn the fireplace mantle and tie in nicely with traditional red stockings.

A beautiful vignette styled in a bay window.

Another vignette created from the simplicity of decorating tree branches.

A display of individual Hanukkah candles atop gift boxes.

Hanging lanterns and tree branches, so festive above a dining table.

Bringing a little holiday decor into the bedroom: stocking hung at the foot of the bed.

Candlesticks topped with pinecones...makes a great tablescape!

Can't not not love puppies around the holidays! (But a holiday table is nice too!)

Simplicity is stunning!
