Houses of Westwood

Happy Halloween!

1JillSeidner

I love walking through neighborhoods and seeing houses. So, the other day I happen to take a stroll through a Westwood neighborhood, in the heart of Los Angeles, just east of Westwood Village and near to UCLA. The neighborhood still retains many of the orginal homes that were built between the 1920's and 1960's.

A Visit to Buckingham Interiors + Design

1JillSeidner

On a recent visit to Chicago, I had the opportunity to meet up with my fellow Material Girl's blogger Julia at her showroom and design studio. While Julia and I have met up on several occasions (both in LA and at High Point Markets) I had yet to visit her in her base city. Along with our friend Lisa Mende, we spent a morning checking out the fab Buckingham ID showroom followed by brunch at SoHo House in Chicago - and had a great time all of us together!

Color Love: Julia loves orange and I love how this piece creates quite the statement in her showroom, against the backdrop of the white painted brick walls.

Accesorized shelving and shaggy colorful stools define Julia's Modernique style.

Showroom displays include table settings and fun industrial chic stools.

A crazy fun skeletal chair! (And Julia has a cute story about how when the store alarm was once set off, the police dispatched ended up wanting pictures in the chair, that of course, after all was checked out and in the clear!)

Instagram Takeover for DIEM Recap + Highlights from the Week!

JillSeidner13

Lots of events took place in LA this past week and I am here to share! Along with showroom parties and openings, I had the opportunity to takeover the West Hollywood Design District's Instagram account for "A Day in the Life". It was fun to take part and feature some of my favorite places around town. For a full recap of photos, you can view here.

JillSeidner12

The Instagram takeover began with my day of coffee and iPad...

...to showing the newly built Restoration Hardware showroom going up on Melrose Avenue, just in time for that evening's grand opening party.

Which catered to a very packed crowd: Celebs, design friends, and pretty much all of West Hollywood was there!

JillSeidner1

The next evening I attended a much more intimate party. This one at Woven Accents for the "Spark The Imagination" installation invited by my friend Ginna of 27Ground. (Pictured above with Shirley of Shivhon Rugs.)

I also got to check out the newest, latest rug on display in the window at Woven Accents by artist Gregory Siff.

And yet another rug on display at Woven Accents: this one designed by my good friend Christian of Maison21. From the Shapes Collection.

Another highlight this week was attending the Fall luncheon for Legends of La Cienega Design Quarter (for a preview of what's to come!).

JillSeidner11

Enjoyed hanging out with Amanda Malson at the LCDQLA luncheon.

Lastly, the week actually kicked off last weekend with the most amazing party at Snyder Diamond in celebration of their 65th Anniversary!

Thanks to West Hollywood Design District, LCDQ, Woven Accents, & Snyder Diamond for all the great events this past week!

The Langham, Chicago

JillSeidner1

On a recent trip to Chicago, I had the opportunity to stay at the newly opened The Langham, an exquisite luxury hotel located at 330 Wabash (home of a Mies van der Rohe designed building). I have been a fan of the architect since my days in design school. The landmark building is located in downtown Chicago adjacent to the river, 52 stories tall, and boasts over 300 guest rooms and suites. The second floor lobby (pictured above) is a testament to simple refined elegance.

The interiors of Travelle, the hotel's restaurant, features a bar and lounge overlooking the river, and a dining room on the opposite side.

The interiors of Travelle, a great nightlife spot, where I spent an evening hanging out with friends for drinks and food.

JillSeidner11

The hotel room suites are contemporary, yet classic lines, of understated elegance.

JillSeidner14

The entry features full height closets and a vanity.

JillSeidner12

Sophisticated furnishings, neutral colors, and pattern such as the links in the carpet and bedding create a timeless look.

JillSeidner10

I was in awe of the bar cabinet which features a tilt out for the coffee (happy to find my Nespresso addiction here!), a concealed bar fridge below, and the cabinet and drawers on the sides are stocked with all the hotel amenities you could ever want!

JillSeidner9

The well-appointed bathroom features a wall mounted Geberit toilet, dual Kohler sinks, and Zucchetti bath fittings.

The walk-in shower is completely walled in minimalist stone with both rainhead and detachable shower sprays and a sleek minimal linear shower drain.

JillSeidner15

A seperate WC features a wall-mounted toilet from Geberit. The European, contemporary design of Geberit’s wall-mounted toilet complement the Langham’s existing aesthetic. Many European luxury hotel designers have turned to Geberit for the sleek design and space-saving benefits for decades, and designers in the U.S. are beginning to follow suit.

Thank you to Geberit for the opportunity to experience The Langham.
