House Tour: Malibu Coastal

This Malibu beachfront property was the perfect coastal retreat for a Los Angeles family but needed a complete overhaul. The architectural firm of Safdie Rabines Architects was hired to gut and redesign the property overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Take a look!

The four year renovation retained only two of the house's orignal walls. The remodel helped capitalize on both the ocean (rear) and mountain (front) views.

The front door with a family room and patio with steps leading down to a fire pit and olive trees.

Entering the home, a three-story glass atrium runs along the east side of the house so that the light reaches deep into the interior spaces of the narrow home. The architects added an “indoor trellis” made of horizontal teak slats.

The living room leads out to an outdoor deck with dining and kitchen areas. The raised area offers unobstructed ocean views.

The kitchen and dining room are actually slightly raised to take advantage of the views. Hints of blue in the kitchen reflect the house's water views.

The dynamic master bedroom is located on the second story with sweeping ocean views thanks to walls of glass.

There is also a second building at the front of the property that contains a guest suite complete with bedroom, spa, gym, and garage - just keeps getting better and better doesn't it!

The stunning outdoor deck!
