Dressing Your Desk

It's likely the majority of us spend a great deal of time at our desks. It's inevitable that we are often plugging away at our computers. But the great thing is we can personalize and design creative workspaces whether they live in a corner of our living room, a nook in a bedroom...or even a converted closet. Here are some inspirational desk set ups!

Pretty wallpaper panels and freestanding artwork make this a glam little writing desk.

Hanging a fabric covered bulletin board above your desk to collect inspirational photos and cards adds a personal touch to any desk.

Keeping it clean, simple, and monochromatic might be the best for a less distracting workspace. Narrow shelving ledges are also a great solution for display above a desk.

Deeper floating shelves above a desk might be useful for storing nick knacks and books.

For heavier objects, would suggest shelving with some sort of supports, like the above. Colorful accessories add a bold touch to an otherwise all white work space!

Take shelving to the ceiling if you are looking for optimal storage. A built-in desk with coordinating shelves above can maximize a space. This desk set up even has a little mini tv.

Bold artwork adds just the right touch to a clean crisp white work environment.

An inspirational collage above your desk just might be the ticket to keep at it every day!

Looking for organization and structure? Keeping sets of matching binders and boxes may be the best solution to making your desk space appear neat and tidy.

If putting a small desk in the middle of a room, such as a bedroom or living room, having it decorated to not look so utilitarian is the key.

A Colorful Malibu Ranch House

A 1970's ranch house gets a colorful makeover for a young, extroverted family. The result is a fun, high-energy makeover. If the Pacific Ocean from Malibu doesn't brighten your day, this colorful house certainly will!

To keep the living room, fresh and simple, the designers chose a "happy white" with added colorful accents (ceiling fixture, throw pillows).

A bright colored island was painted green, among a sea of white cabinets.

A brightly hued blue dining room, offset by neutrals in the area rug and furnishings, but comes together with the patterned drapery fabric.

And it gets brighter! A sunny yellow for the media room (complete with two tone corduroy drapery panels).

A romantic bedroom. (When the owners couldn't find artwork they liked, they had the word "love" spelled out over their bed...it was a temporary fix that became a permanent one.)

A Missoni rug makes a colorful statement in the master bathroom.

Shopping Overstock

Have to admit, in recent months Overstock.com has become an increasing "go to" source for me when sourcing for clients. Initially it began with clients emailing me their Overstock.com finds, often with a cringe (in comparison to some of the other great things I was finding elsewhere) but with budgets (& yes, those knock-offs!) - it's often hard to pass up! Especially with my online design clients, it has become a great resource for those looking to furnish first homes and such, on a tight budget!

{Several items seen in the above concept board were sourced from Overstock.com for a living room online design project I designed for a client, young first time homeowners that were looking to furnish their new home on a budget.}

This ottoman is available on Overstock.com for just $185, and comes in a range of colors including purple and taupe (I included the grey one on the concept board above).

Also featured on the concept board, this lounge chair available on Overstock currently for $206.

For accessories, these throw pillows at just $22 (& included in the above design scheme) make a great find!

And while I only showed one of these table lamps on the console table on the board, they come as a pair for only $184.

Some other great finds:

Woodson & Rummerfield's House of Design Debuts New Stanley Furniture Showroom!

photo_1

So happy to share that my wonderful friends, Jaime Rummerfield & Ron Woodson (pictured above) of Woodson & Rummerfield's House of Design, have debuted their design of the new Stanley Furniture showroom in Las Vegas. Official opening was held during Market last week at the Las Vegas Design Center. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the opening party but Jaime was nice enough to share these images of the new showroom space (which I was dying to see!). photo_4

A formal living room vignette at the Stanley Furniture showroom reminiscent of Woodson & Rummerfield's design essence.

A cozy living room set up outfitted with wall decor accessories that tie in well with the leather high back chair and nail-head trim sofa.

Another formal dining room, this one filled with a fabulous bookcase along with a graphic area rug and artwork that tie in the look of the dining room furnishings.

Looking forward to seeing their next redesign - a new 60,000 square foot showroom space at High Point Market which will open in April for Spring Market!
